“Raising your own children in daycare”

Many providers have said that their own children presented the greatest challenges to operating a family child care business. Since many providers went into child care to be home with their own children, this can be even more stressful and disheartening.

Specific examples of policy content that should be considered and weighed with regards to what is in the best interest of the provider’s family, the child care client’s family and the child in care will be shared, discussed and options for solutions will be offered.

Providers will have an opportunity to discuss specific concerns that have risen within their own families in regards to operating a “family” child care business.

Reflective Child Guidance

Sometimes children's behavior is puzzling, challenging, and downright overwhelming. This session will include a discussion about goals for children's behaviors and how to react based on these goals. It also addresses children's temperament and how to approach discipline according to a specific child's needs. Learn how to reflect on your parenting and teaching goals and the child's environment and how to take action to move forward. The overall goal of this workshop is to help participants gain a better understanding of child psychology and assist parents and teachers in planning an approach to child guidance.

Creative Curriculum

Krisitin will talk about Creative Curriculum which is becoming a state wide curriculum for our rating scale. It’s a flexible curriculum that doesn’t require everyone to sit around a table and do the same project. It’s a curriculum that helps you gain the right materials, how to implement the materials and ways to setup your environments to gain the most of all areas of development.

What happens after you shake a baby?

As far as information about me, I used to be a home daycare provider for my very good friend.

I am really a very normal person, I had no previous criminal background, I have been married to my husband for 7 years, we have 3 beautiful boys together, we attend church regularly, I have a four year degree. I really feel that I am like many others, this can happen to anyone because it happened to me.  I reached my breaking point one day, my exhaustion took over and I shook the baby I was watching. It is a very devastating story and I want every person to know about what happened to me so they can be aware of their own feelings.
